Our spring cleaning left us with a lot of stuff and nowhere to put it. So we decided to take the pile of wood and make it into a barn, in a day! We did the structure with almost no cutting, using the pieces as is. And it is very organic, not a single 90 degree angle in the whole building! We finally have a place to keep our bikes, farm tools and lumber. Hoping little elves might come do the roof for us some night soon...

Our very handy man Angus is a master painter and sign builder, and has been directing our crew building new signs for the cafe and Embassy. The roof being made here by Jessica is bamboo recycled from a tipi at the Fly Camp music festival we hosted last summer. Angus and Jake have been debating for months whether it is more eco to use Acrylic paint or Oils. Jake has been using acrylics at the Embassy for years because they are water soluble and so cleaning is just with water, not paint thinner. Angus's point is that oils last longer, so need less repainting, and thus conserve materials. And cleaning brushes with paint thinner is also more efficient, thinner can be re-used, and the brushes also last longer. Basically, if you are looking for a more sustainable way to paint, keep an eye out for responsibly produced products that are on the market (Livos from Switzerland is good), and be conservative, take care of your brushes, etc.

We finally have a piano at the Embassy! Our local friend Kajihara had it sitting at home unplayed for years, so we decided to give it a new home. Jake, Angus, Matt and Andy couldn't lift it, so we had to borrow a crane truck and burn a little diesel fuel, but we got it on the stage. It will be there for the summer and we welcome you all to join us for outdoor concerts, dinner parties, or just a quiet play at sunset...
